Sweater Weather: Our Favorite Types of Sweaters
Sweater weather is right around the corner, and it's one of our favorite times of the year! When it comes to classic comfort, nothing beats putting on a sweater. It’s like wearing a hug! Instant coziness guaranteed.
There are so many different types of sweaters, and even more various styles, textures, and silhouettes that make each one unique! When you decide to treat yourself to a new sweater, it might seem daunting to navigate through all of your different options. This sweater guide will help make achieving peak coziness as easy as staying in bed all day!
Styles
Pullover
When you think of a classic sweater, you’re probably thinking about a pullover sweater. Pullover sweaters are so easy to wear and style, and they are definitely the most popular of all the sweater types. They typically have a crew neck or v-neckline. Pullover sweaters do not have any buttons or other closures on the front, although they might have cute adornments like sequins or embroidery.
Turtleneck
When you’re ready to take your sweater game to the next level, you’re ready for a turtleneck. Turtleneck sweaters feature a high, fitted neck that typically hits an inch or two under the chin. These types of sweaters are fantastic for layering, easily providing a sleek and sophisticated look with minimal effort. Try wearing a turtleneck under a slip dress for a unique look!
Cardigan
Cardigans are a staple in every girl’s closet! While lightweight cardigans are great for layered looks throughout the year, when winter comes around, you’ll want to opt for a cardigan sweater. Cardigan sweaters are sweaters with an open front that can be buttoned, zipped, or otherwise closed. However, some cardigans just rock that open front style! Cardigan sweaters are great because they can add extra warmth and dimension to an outfit, and can also be a removable layer throughout the day. Wearing a cardigan sweater over a pullover will give you maximum coziness.
Poncho
Another type of sweater that is perfect for winter is the poncho. Ponchos are such fun statement pieces, especially when they have tassels or other adornment. A poncho is essentially a large piece of fabric with a slit in the middle, you know, for your head! Some ponchos go all out with sleeves, pockets, and even turtlenecks! On those cold winter mornings when you wake up freezing, throw on a pair of leggings, a warm pullover, and then top it off with a cute poncho. Take that, Jack Frost!
Textures
- Chenille is our favorite material for all types of sweaters. It’s soft, plush, and so cozy!
- Fuzzy sweaters, also known as eyelash knit sweaters, have amazing texture that can take any outfit to the next level. Try pairing a fun-colored, fuzzy sweater with a black and white outfit for a bold look that will turn heads!
- Cable knit sweaters are timeless! They have a slightly dimensional look, complete with braided details which are achieved through weft knitting, or crossing multiple layers of yarn across each other. Cable knit sweaters are usually a bit sturdier than typical sweaters.
- Open-knit sweaters create a slightly sheer look, which can be super cute when layered with a colorful bralette.
- Ribbed knit sweaters feature a vertical line pattern which can be very flattering, especially when combined with a slimming v-neckline.
- Marled knit sweaters are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s no surprise! Marled yarn is created by combining single plies of different colored brushed yarns into one soft, multicolored, unique yarn. Some marled yarns use different tones of the same color to create depth, and others use contrasting colors to create a bold look. The resulting marled yarn is then used to create a soft and cozy sweater.
